Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV)
Solar PV systems use photovoltaic (PV) cells to convert solar radiation into electricity. PV cells are connected together to form a panel. Panels are then linked and sized to meet a particular requirement. When light shines on the panel it creates an electric field across the layers of the cells, causing electricity to flow. The greater the intensity of the light, the greater the flow of electricity.
The result is a PV array which supplies DC power to an inverter. The inverter, in turn, provides an AC power supply to the building. If the building has mains electricity, after notifying the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of the installation, it is usually possible to export any excess electricity to the national grid.
A thermal system contains a specialised heat transfer fluid, which transfers heat from the solar collectors to the hot water storage cylinder.
The pipework circuit operates under low pressure and is fitted with all necessary safety features, including an expansion vessel and pressure safety valve. Fully automatic control is maintained by a differential temperature controller (DTC). The DTC automatically controls the operation of the circulating pump and, at the same time, provides a digital temperature read-out.
What is important in a panel?
Whether it is a solar thermal collector or a solar PV panel you may be asking yourself what is important when picking panels. The most important factors are: efficiency, durability, attractiveness and versatility.
Panels range in efficiency and are priced accordingly. Deciding what is best can be a personal choice and is usually determined by the size available for your array. If you have limited space it may be more beneficial to have 12 high-efficiency panels rather than 16 regular panels.
Most panels come with a 25-year warranty and are built to withstand harsh weather conditions with minimum degradation. We’ll ensure that you get the best value, and are fully informed of the expected lifespan and performance of your system.
Solar panels are not all the same. We aim to make your installation look as pleasing as possible by considering frame colour, panel colour, in-roof or on-roof mounting and a range of options for different roof types.
We complete most domestic installations within a day, maximising your roof space to get the most out of your system. To do this we use versatile panels and unique fixing methods in order to make installation as pain free as we can.
