Home Energy Scotland Renewables Loan Scheme
The Home Energy Scotland Renewables Loan Scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and is currently in the process of being confirmed for 2019-20. In last year’s scheme, interest free loans of up to £10,000 were made available to owner occupiers in Scotland who wished to install a domestic renewables system, or to connect to an approved district heating scheme.

- Fund up to two home renewables systems for each home.
- Receive up to £17,500 in total over the two systems.
- Apply for an energy storage system up to £6,000.
- Loans are administered by Energy Saving Trust.
- Loans are subject to an administrative fee of 1.5% (max £150).
- Work must not commence before a loan offer has been made.
- Certain improvements will require the use of a certified installer.
Loans are available to owner-occupiers in Scotland for existing residential buildings, as well as buildings under construction where the property is already owned by the intended occupier. Landlords are also eligible to apply, so long as they own the property in a personal capacity, the property is not owned by a business, and they are applying for no more than three properties, which are each currently occupied.

Interest free loans are available covering up to 100% of the costs (max £5,000 for connecting to an approved district heating scheme. The scheme must be approved for support under the Home Energy Scotland renewables loan scheme.
To be eligible for a HES loan, all installers and systems must be certified under the terms of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). A list of all MCS certified products and installers can be found on the Microgeneration Certification Scheme website.
